#1: Keyword Search

Publisher Rocket will ask you whether you want keywords for an eBook or a print edition. You can’t search for both at the same time, presumably to narrow down your results.

  • The number of competitors is an estimate of how many books on Amazon use this keyword.

While there’s nothing wrong with being hopeful, the projections I’ve seen appear to be unreasonable. Perhaps they include bestselling authors who increase the average to levels that most self-published authors can’t match?

 

Publisher Rocket does not fully populate the Keywords Search table, presumably to speed things up. You need to click the orange “Analyze” button for each keyword to do so. The button then turns green and reads, “Competition”.

 

If you click on it, Publisher Rocket takes you directly to the second function, “Competition Analyzer,” for the selected keyword. This is a particularly useful automation, as it lets you run a speedy Competition Analysis. Thankfully, the original Keyword Search is not lost and you can return to it after checking out the competition.

 

Another big help is the ability to export all data for Excel, letting you study them at your convenience.

 

#2: Competition Analyzer

 

If you choose Competition Analyzer, you will be prompted to enter a keyword. Publisher Rocker will then display a list of books, complete with title/subtitle, cover, and relevant data in columns, as well as a link to each book’s Amazon page:
